Aokigahara - The Suicide Forest of Japan

Situated at the northwest base of Mount Fuji, Japan. Aokigahara is also known as Suicide Forest.

The forest has a historic association with demons in Japanese Mythology, and its a common suicide point. The forest is most popular suicide spot in Japan. Stats vary but since 1988, average of 100 people die every year. In 2003, number of death bodies were recorded with 103, exceeding the previous death record of 78 in 2002. In 2004, 108 killed themselves.

 Due to high death rate, this place is highly spooky. There are many ghost and demon stories related to the forest. Its regularly reported that spirits with white shade being spotted running around the trees.
